Educational Program

Educational Program: Arts

Music

Under the experienced guidance of Sheree Seretse, all children learn group dynamics through marimba games, dances, chants, and drumming twice a week. Music permeates the school building as teacher and apprentices practice rote African songs through a marimba ensemble. Children hear themselves as a pulse synchronized within the larger community of rhythms. Together the voices speak to the flow of collaboration and cooperation. Listen.

Visual Arts

Children receive painting and drawing instruction throughout core classes, Spanish, electives, and the Extended-Day Program. Artists and other professionals work with children on short term, focused programs through our scholar-in-residence budget allocated to each and every classroom teacher. Real world visual art projects include outdoor murals and scientific illustrations.

Theater

All students perform class plays for the school community. Our integrated curriculum approaches theater as a way to explore history, culture, language, movement, music, and costume/set/prop fabrication.
