Educational Program: Physical Education and Yoga

In addition to a child's primary class teacher, other learning specialists will develop a child's skills within school-wide programs. All children at Spruce Street School participate in arts, Spanish, electives, and yoga as part of the daily curriculum.

Physical Education (PE)

All classes meet for PE each week. PE is designed to help children develop the skill, knowledge and attitudes necessary for participating in active, healthy living. Regular physical activity helps children build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints; build lean muscle and reduce fat; reduces feeling of depression and anxiety; and may, through its effect on mental health, increase students' capacity for learning.

Yoga

Children spend time every week listening to their own body during yoga practice led by Amy Solomon-Minarchi, our yoga instructor. Lights are dimmed, voices are quiet, and children stretch into a variety of age appropriate poses. Students benefit from practicing balance, concentration, relaxation, and guided introspection.
