Learning Environment

Learning Environment: School Layout

Our building is brand new! In 2005 Spruce Street School moved eight blocks from its twenty year home in the Cascade neighborhood to its current location at 914 Virginia in Seattle's Denny Triangle. More than three million dollars have been invested by the owner and school to completely upgrade and renovate the three story building. The interior was designed by Carlson Architects and built by Turner Special Projects Division. The upper two floors include six classrooms, a music room, an art room, conference room, offices, and open space used for drama, yoga, dance, the Extended Day program, and meetings. The first floor is a large indoor playspace.

We use our playground in the sky atop the building for many daily learning activities because it provides a unique perspective to view the dynamic density of Seattle's diverse downtown. The rooftop provides secure and safe access to fresh air physical activities during our school day. Play zones include a basketball court, climbing structure, running areas, and a climbing wall.
